Main Stage of new Uptown! to be named for A. Roy Smith
February 28, 2017
West Chester PA -- Uptown! is pleased to announce a major gift from West Chester resident A. Roy Smith to name the Main Stage performance hall in the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center. The space will be called the A. Roy Smith Bravo Main Stage Theatre. In naming the Main Stage, Roy said “I have been extremely fortunate during my lifetime, and to be able to share it seems the right thing to do. To be recognized in this way for doing so is most gratifying." Roy wanted to also recognize the National Guard Bravo Company which operated out of the historic Armory from 1916 to 2014.
Roy serves as a Board Member and current Treasurer of Uptown! Entertainment Alliance. He has also served many Pennsylvania charities and been recognized with the F. Otto Haas Award, the highest honor in the State for historic preservation. He is a past President of Preservation Pennsylvania and served on the West Chester HARB. He also served as treasurer on the board of the West Chester Business Improvement District for over a decade and is a member of the West Chester Downtown Foundation Board. His work to preserve the historic Armory and convert it into the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center continues his legacy.
Uptown! continues to seek capital donations to support the preservation and transformation of the Historic Armory as a theater for film and live performance. There are several naming opportunities still available at the theater. There are also opportunities to make a donation and have your name or your family’s name on a seat in the theater.
To make a donation to support the renovations or to become a member of Uptown! visit UptownWestChester.org or call the box office directly at 610-356-2787.
UPTOWN! Entertainment Alliance at the Knauer Performing Arts Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation promoting cultural, economic, and civic life experiences in our community through live theater, music, dance, film and other local events in downtown West Chester.
