This week’s “Business Spotlight” is Mae’s, which is located at 39 W Gay Street! We sat down with their owner, Josh Taggart.
1. What services do you offer?
Mae’s is a BYOB restaurant and is open for lunch, dinner, and our popular weekend brunches. We also offer catering for your event or wedding and have become the preferred caterer for many West Chester event venues. You can also stop by and pick up a variety of house-made products from our Mae’s Market, including soups, hummus and dips, pizza kits, charcuterie boxes, as well as specialty items made by local food and beverage artisans. Mae’s is the only purveyor of Rival Brothers Coffee in West Chester, so stop by and enjoy the best cup of brew in town!
2. How long have you been in business?
We celebrated our 2-year anniversary in May! We were in the creation process prior to covid shutting the world down, so our opening was delayed until May 2020. Our loyal customers and the local community were with us all the way during the past two challenging yet successful years! We are very grateful!
3. What do you love most about West Chester?
I fell in love with West Chester while dating my wife and knew that this was where I wanted to open my own restaurant one day. The small-town charm with a big appreciation for great food makes West Chester a perfect place to offer my farm-to-table cuisine. I also love the availability of so many local, talented artisans that allows me to source provisions with the ultimate freshness and quality. We are so thankful for the tight-knit local community who have been so supportive of our restaurant! West Chester is also the town where we chose to put down our family roots. We live here with our four children and enjoy the fabulous West Chester schools, sports, and other community events.
4. Is there anything else that you would like to share about your store?
After award-winning stints opening restaurants in Philadelphia – including Lacroix, Tony Clark’s, and Rae at the Cira Center (all of which have won Esquire Magazine’s Best New Restaurant of the Year), I wanted to bring the same high-quality, creative culinary art to West Chester. We were honored to be named 2021 MainLine Today’s Best Bistro, 2022 Best Farm to Table, and the Daily Local’s Best of Chester County for BYOB and for Best Kept Secret!
