The Gay Street Open-Air Market is coming back for 2024 (date to be announced!)

The Open-Air Market was created during the pandemic to give residents and visitors more space to shop, eat, and explore town. Now, it has become one of our most popular events! Each year, four blocks of Gay Street (from Matlack Street to Darlington Street) are closed to vehicles so everyone can partake in al fresco dining and shopping. Restaurants extend into the street, so you can enjoy the beautiful weather as you eat.

Downtown West Chester has a variety of street-level, metered parking and parking garages available.

Opportunities for free parking downtown:

• The Justice Center Garage is free after 5pm on weekdays and all day on Saturdays/Sundays.
• Street-level, metered parking is free on Saturday mornings until 5pm.
• Street-level, metered parking and all parking garages are free on Sundays.
• Every First Friday of the month, street-level, metered parking is free after 5pm.

Please note: Gay Street will be closed to vehicles for the Open-Air Market.
