West Chester PA — PECO contractors have begun construction on an improvement project in the 400 block of West Market Street. Partial lane closures are in place. Construction will continue eastward to New Street and will take two or more weeks.

It is part of an improvement project to replace 15 aging electronic transformers, manhole covers, and lay 5,000 feet of electrical lines in the area of North High Street, and West Gay Street between High and Darlington including portions of Church Street and Prescott Alley.

PECO has asked the Borough for permission to do the Gay Street construction at night between 11:00pm and 9:00am, Monday through Thursday. The street will be temporarily restored after each shift to minimize disruption.

The start date for Gay Street and other downtown areas has not yet been determined.
