Hi! My name is Rebecca Schmidt and I’m the new Marketing and Events Coordinator at the West Chester Business Improvement District. I graduated from West Chester University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Media & Culture. A little bit about me – I love to dance and was previously a Zumba Instructor at WCU. Since my time at college got cut short due to Covid, I have a personal goal to visit all the stores and restaurants in the area, fully taking advantage of what West Chester and the surrounding community have to offer.
While I attended college at WCU, I fell in love with the town. It immediately felt like home, and I soon knew it was where I wanted to live and pursue my career after I graduate. I believe it has something for everyone, from family-friendly restaurants to charismatic shops. My favorite part is West Chester’s strong sense of community. There are always new businesses moving in and fun events to attend, so you’ll never get bored.
Before starting at the BID, I worked at a digital marketing agency in Wilmington, Delaware for the past 2 years as the Lead Content Creator. I managed social media accounts for over 9 clients, wrote various content for marketing materials and websites, and led a team of 3-4 writers. In this position, I developed leadership skills, gained experience in marketing, and found my passion for social media.
I always thought to myself that a job marketing West Chester would be a dream. I feel so lucky that it came true! In this new position, I’m looking forward to working with each of you to market your businesses, promote West Chester to the rest of the community, and plan events for visitors and locals alike. As a recent graduate from WCU and a new resident downtown, I understand what both audiences are looking for and what will grab their attention. My goal for this year is to bring in new ideas for events, find creative ways to market the town, and get people to fall in love with West Chester the same way I did.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about social media, marketing, or want to get to know one another. I’m very excited to meet and work with you all soon!
