This week’s “Business Spotlight” is Pomp West Chester, which is located at 141 W Gay Street. We sat down with the owner, Joseph D’Ambro, to get the inside scoop.
1. Tell me about your business and what makes it unique.
Pomp West Chester is an interesting, well-curated home goods store in an understated (casual) gallery setting. Our underlying philosophy of procuring ethically sourced goods, intentionally, is sometimes limiting but important to the ideal of supporting small businesses. We also offer originals, handmade, or small-batch items you won’t find in a “big box.” And our custom wood shop service is refreshingly convenient, just ask me for more info!
2. What services or products do you offer?
Along with the products we mentioned above, we provide interior design, custom metal fabrication, and woodworking (doors, cabinets, wall treatments, and wood countertops). The wood shop runs 8-12 weeks lead time, so we are taking commissions for 2024.
3. How long have you been in business?
We have been in business for 35 years-ish, however, Pomp West Chester will be one in December!
4. What do you love most about being located in West Chester?
I love being part of the ever-changing fabric of Downtown West Chester. I love that more people know my dog’s name than my name. West Chester has so many positive things, including great bars and eateries and another hotel (soon), all perfectly situated in this beautiful country. West Chester has been aching, for decades, for diverse retail and diverse professional services. We need pro-commerce leaders to support the retail potential of our Borough, and we aspire to be part of the change.
5. What can you tell me about the culture or atmosphere of your business?
We are casual, sometimes messy, usually friendly, but always real. We want everyone to feel welcome, we love a good story, and we appreciate all questions.
6. Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?
Upcoming events: we will be doing random pop-up Prosecco nights in November and December. Follow us on Instagram for details!
New products: I am finishing up a couple never before seen items in late October/early November. They will be offered at Pomp West Chester as well as The Art Trust for their “Gifted” exhibit!
Check out our website to learn more! We are continually making improvements to it and will soon be offering a wish list option for gift/wedding registries.
