This week’s “Business Spotlight” is Mayday Coffee Shop, which is located at 123 N High Street. We sat down with the owner, Austin Piona, to get the inside scoop.

1. Tell me about your business and what makes it unique.

Founded in 2023, we’re more than a coffee shop. We’re a positive and welcoming environment here to shine a light on mental health and create community. We’re inspiring a sense of excitement and encouragement through a purposefully designed atmosphere all while serving great-tasting food and drinks to the West Chester community and surrounding areas.

2. What services or products do you offer?

At Mayday, we offer craft coffee, fresh flowers, curated retail goods, a private event space, and fresh seasonal food offerings.

3. How long have you been in business?

We are brand new! We opened to the public on March 3rd and are so excited to provide West Chester with a much-needed outlet for individuals.

4. What do you love most about being located in West Chester?

The community in West Chester is the reason we do what we do. After witnessing younger members of the local community struggle with mental health, I knew I needed to create Mayday. The word mayday originates from the word “m’aider” meaning “come and help me” and that’s exactly what Mayday strives to do — create an environment where people can come for help, get away from the day-to-day stress, and have a positive experience.

5. What can you tell me about the culture or atmosphere of your business?

We’re the vibrance and positivity of the West Coast brought to West Chester, PA. We’re a craft coffee and curated shop. We’re fresh flowers and inspiring events. We’re Mayday and we’re here for you. We want our employees and our customers to feel a sense of relief, to feel inspired, to smile, and to see the intention in everything we do.

6. Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Be sure to follow us at @maydaycoffeeshop and check out our website at maydaycoffeeshop.com for upcoming workshops and trainings! We will be open for you daily from 6:30am – 7pm for your early morning caffeine and afternoon hangouts.
