The Charles A. Melton Arts & Education Center and People's Light invite you to engage in conversation around playwright and director Steve H. Broadnax III's offering "Illuminating Bayard or Am I Not Good?", an artistic representation of Civil Rights mastermind, and West Chester-native, Bayard Rustin.

Kick off the summer with West Chester's June First Friday event! Stroll through town and visit our one-of-a-kind retail stores, award-winning restaurants, and delicious dessert options to cap the night! Many shops will be open late and June is the perfect time to eat outside, so be sure not to miss out!

The Underground Railroad was a network of people, African American as well as white, offering shelter and aid to enslaved people escaping from the South. This family-friendly walking tour will visit locations around downtown West Chester that played a part in these struggles toward freedom and equality. Admission fee is by donation--pay as you wish!

In partnership with Revival Theatre Company, we are honored to host “The Ruby Bridges Story” on June 19th at 7 pm. Ruby Bridges was only 6 years old when the Civil Rights movement came hammering at her door, making her the first black child to attend an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. With songs inspired by The Shirelles, Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson, this musical explores a little girl’s unbeatable courage in the face of adversity as she helped to lead the Civil Rights movement up the front steps and into the classrooms of an elementary school in New Orleans.

Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center proudly announces it will be hosting the premiere of the family feature film, Project Pay Day, on Friday, June 25th, 2021 at 7pm.
