Who Owns Your Grocery Store – Jon Steinman Event
April 12 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
| FreeWHO OWNS YOUR GROCERY STORE – Why a community-owned grocery store for West Chester with Author Jon Steinman
Jon Steinman is an author who has visited over 150 food co-ops nationwide and has many stories to tell. This talk will be of interest to anyone curious to learn more about community-owned grocery stores and the larger movement that the West Chester Cooperative is a part of. The event will also be of tremendous value to existing co-op members who will benefit from Jon’s ‘Food Co-op Ambassador Training’ – a thoughtful and carefully curated list of the most effective and compelling ways to talk about your future community-owned grocery store with other West Chester residents.
Who owns the grocery stores you shop at? Does it matter? Grocery stores might just be THE most powerful institutions shaping the future of food, and yet most of these spaces where consumers access food, nutrition and medicines, are privately-owned — leaving the values and future of these stores in the hands of a single individual or company. The relevance of this question has intensified recently following the proposed merger of two of the country’s largest grocers.
The Chester County History Center will be open at 4:30pm for people to tour through the Museum before the Co-op event starts. We will be providing appetizers and non-alcohol beverages.
