Borough Partners with PA Licensed Beverage & Tavern Association to Achieve 100% RAMP Certification for Bars & Restaurants

August 10, 2016 | Borough of West Chester

West Chester, PA -- The Borough of West Chester has moved another step closer to achieving its goal of being a 100% RAMP Certified Community.

BoroughThrough an initiative of Mayor Carolyn Comitta, the Community Campus Coalition, and the collaboration of Borough Council, the Borough is partnering with the PA Licensed Beverage & Tavern Association to make the process of obtaining and maintaining RAMP certification as easy as possible for local businesses. RAMP, the Responsible Alcohol Management Program, is a voluntary certification which is designed to assist liquor licensees in educating new hires, current employees and themselves in legal and responsible alcohol service. West Chester Borough is the first municipality in the Commonwealth to set the goal to be 100% RAMP-Certified.

The PA Licensed Beverage & Tavern Association (“PALBTA”), established in 1941, is the only non-profit, statewide, trade association for retail licensees in the Commonwealth. PALBTA have provided RAMP training since the inception of the program and were the first approved online RAMP Server/Seller training in Pennsylvania. PALBTA consistently promote alcohol education to all licensees and their servers to protect the general public and businesses.

As stated by Mayor Comitta, “Downtown West Chester is a vibrant destination for the arts, culture, entertainment, and dining. Through the 100% RAMP-Certification program, our goal is to improve public safety and quality of life for all. Our success lies in a strong partnership of local government, restauranteurs, the PLCB, and the PALBTA.”

The partnership is intended to simplify for businesses the costs to obtain and maintain their RAMP certification:

•    Borough of West Chester licensees will enjoy a 20% discount on all online classes.

•    Borough of West Chester licensees will enjoy a 40% discount on all onsite classes.

•    Borough of West Chester licensees will enjoy a 50% discount on all online classes starting September 1, 2016 - for a limited time.

•    For those licenses who prefer a classroom setting - periodically scheduled classes will be hosted at the municipal building. This will offer a safe environment for your employees to attend the three-hour class.
