West Chester, PA -- Pennsylvania Downtown Center (PDC) recognized West Chester along with 34 other Pennsylvania downtowns in six regions that have been become “Nationally Accredited Programs” by the National Main Street Center (NMSC), a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Receiving National Accreditation Main Street Program status is seen as a prominent recognition. West Chester is one of only three communities in the PA Southeast Region to be accredited.

Accredited Main Street programs are evaluated annually by PDC, Pennsylvania's downtown coordinating program. Each of the 35 communities have met the ten performance standards required by NMSC. These standards include topics such as training requirements, planning methods, and community involvement.  The full list of the 10 standards of performance is explained at PreservationNation.org.

"Main Street programs work together to build an accomplished community revitalization effort through training and education," said Bill Fontana, Executive Director of PDC. "Receiving national accreditation shows that these programs are dedicated to creating a change in their community and leading as an example for other programs in the revitalization process."
