January 4, 2016 | By Ronna Dewey, Dish Works
Even if you live or work in the borough, you probably haven’t begun to discover all that Downtown West Chester has to offer. You can find everything from apparel and home decor to jewelry and art at over 75 retail shops and boutiques in the downtown area. Our dining scene is absolutely booming, too, with over 65 restaurants!
We know that the downtown area is truly special and are humbled by the sheer number of in-print and online publications talking about West Chester. We’re pleased that the press has taken notice and is spreading the word. Take a look at who’s been talking about us:
6ABC Meteorologist Adam Joseph posted his love for the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade on his Facebook page on December 23, 2015:
“LOVE MEETING YOU ALL!! I had a blast this year at the old-fashioned West Chester Christmas parade a few weeks ago. I can't count the amount of hi fives, hugs, kisses, & selfies I took along the parade route.”
The Town Dish shared all of the new restaurants and bars that hit our dining scene in 2015:
“If you have some time off over the holidays, take a trip through town and check out one of West Chester’s fine new spots to eat and drink. We’ve compiled a list of new restaurants and bars, a few favorites that opened this year and even those to keep in mind when they open in the coming months.”
Destination Main Streets was impressed by West Chester’s colonial architecture:
“West Chester, Pennsylvania, is unique for the fact that it contains such a large collection of well-preserved eighteenth century architecture for such a such a small town located in a suburban region. … In fact, the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are over three thousand buildings dating back to the colonial period.”
The Classic Towns Blog pointed out that shopping for the holidays is easy in West Chester:
“Historic West Chester is a great place to do some holiday shopping while enjoying the charms of a 19th century downtown decorated for Christmas. [It] can be a great way to get into the holiday spirit, support local businesses, explore a new community, and get the perfect gift for the very special—or hard to shop for—person in your life.”
County Lines Magazine was also impressed with all of the great holiday shopping downtown:
“Many downtown merchants are helping to make giving gifts that someone actually wants much easier by using Holiday Wish Lists. These helpful lists—complete with the name and location of participating stores—let the wisher write in desired items and then place in a strategic spot for a potential gift giver to discover. Win-win and wishes fulfilled!”
The WC Press January issue is all about West Chester’s architecture:
“In this issue you’ll find ‘Stewards of Style,’ a fantastic piece exploring the mission of our Historical & Architectural Review Board and the essence of West Chester’s architectural mission. There’s ‘In Plain Sight,’ which highlights the contributions of the West Chester Downtown Foundation to award those who preserve and revive that aesthetic.”
Visit Philly loves all the art, history, culture, food, drink and shopping in West Chester:
“Home to West Chester University, this quaint town in the Brandywine Valley exudes an energetic, young vibe. In the bustling downtown area, casual eateries and food-centric events satiate hungry palates, and throngs of charming shops line the streets.”
