West Chester Borough citizens offered free street trees

Tree City USAJuly 28, 2014 | Malcolm Johnstone

West Chester PA -- The Borough of West Chester would like to plant or replace up to 100 trees in the coming months. Residents and commercial property owners who would like a free street tree may request one from the borough.

The project is funded from the estate of the Pillagalli Family to expand the already successful tree planting program within the Borough. The program will expire in Spring 2015.

West Chester has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 25 years. The expansion of tree plantings will help maintain the health of the street tree program as a new generation of trees are planted.

To be eligible, property owners must ground out existing tree stumps and concrete sidewalks must have tree wells cut out and ready for planting.

Residents interested in receiving a free street tree should submit an application to the West Chester Borough Urban Forester, Denise Dunn-Kesterson. Applications can be obtained either at the Public Works Department, 205 Lacey St., or at West-Chester.com/tree.

All applications must be submitted no later than February 28, 2014.

Contact Denise at 610-696-5282 for more information.
