Status of PECO Electric Line at Church & Chestnut
From Richard M. Marino II, Marino Corporation, contractor for the Church Street Improvement Project
October 4, 2013
As requested, here is the current status of the construction in the "Bump Out" area of Phase 1 at Church & Chestnut Streets:
Since the power went out back on the 23rd of September and PECO performed a repair of the line, we have been unable to complete our work in that area. The outage was caused by the deterioration of the conduit encasing the electric line. This deterioration allowed the electric current running through the line to arc to our excavator bucket causing the short circuit and the resulting power outage. While PECO did repair the line that has shorted out, the condition which created the outage in the first place still exists and it is unsafe for us to continue excavation in that area.
We have been communicating with PECO and they are aware of the situation. At this point we are waiting for a design team from PECO to come to the site and determine how best to correct the situation. Once that situation is rectified and I am confident that we can excavate safely in that area, we will move in and complete the work as expeditiously as possible.
I wish I could be more precise as to when that will happen. Our initial meeting with PECO was scheduled for Monday, 9/30. That meeting was canceled at the request of PECO and has yet to be rescheduled. I am working diligently to get this meeting set as soon as possible.
Once we have the meeting with PECO, they will determine their course of action and the scope of work needed to correct the situation. PECO will then schedule a crew to complete the work. I do not know how long it will take them to schedule a crew or to complete the work.
I will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available.
