Gawthrop Greenwood attorneys among SmartCEO Magazine's "Legal Elite"

West Chester, PA – Three attorneys at West Chester law firm Gawthrop Greenwood, PC have been named to SmartCEO magazine’s “2011 Legal Elite” list of go-to attorneys for business legal advice. Attorneys are chosen each year by a poll of the magazine’s reader base of 15,000 CEOs in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Sandra L. Knapp, Partner in the Business and Real Estate Practice Group and Chair of the Management Committee, joined the firm in 2009 and in 2011 became the first female to be elected to manage a midsized to large firm in Chester County. Her specific practice areas include business law, commercial transactions, maritime and real estate law, finance and banking. She practices maritime law at the federal level and has built a national client base.
A member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Chester County Bar Association, Knapp is admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a graduate of Lehigh University with a B.S. in Finance and a B.A. in International Studies, and received her J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law, where she was a member of the Villanova Law Review.
Roger N. Huggins, Partner in the Business and Real Estate Practice Group, joined Gawthrop Greenwood in 1996, concentrating his practice in several business-related fields, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate transfers and leasing, financing transactions, entity formation and governance, buy-sell agreements, and contracts. His clients include individuals and small businesses, as well as publicly traded corporations and lending institutions.
A graduate of the Villanova University School of Law, Huggins received his undergraduate degree in economics, with honors, from the University of Delaware. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania and Delaware Bars in 1980 and belongs to the Chester County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. He serves on the firm’s Management and Finance Committees.
Michael F. Merlie, Partner in the Business and Real Estate Practice Group, has been with Gawthrop Greenwood since 2009 and concentrates his practice in business and corporate law, secured transactions, and maritime transactions. He has represented institutional, corporate and entrepreneurial clients in a wide variety of matters, with a particular expertise in maritime financing. He serves on the firm’s Finance Committee.
Merlie is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States. He graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. in Accounting and received his J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law, where he was a member of the Villanova Law Review.
