Public meeting scheduled to gather community input on historic preservation in West Chester
West Chester, PA -- A special meeting will be held by the West Chester Preservation Plan Task Force to hear comments from the public regarding historic preservation in the Borough. Ray Ott, Principal at Ray Ott & Associates, will facilitate the meeting. It will be held at West Chester Borough Hall Council Chambers, 401 East Gay Street, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at 7:30 pm.
The meeting will utilize a workshop format to focus on historic preservation issues within the Borough and its neighborhoods including the existing survey of historic resources; walking tours; threats to historic buildings; appropriate renovation practices; historic district regulations; and the use of Historic Tax Credits.
The outcome of the meeting will be the development of a Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan for consideration of adoption by the Borough Council. This will provide direction for historic preservation practices throughout the Borough which has three historic districts encompassing more than 4,200 structures.
The process is funded with a federal Preserve American grant administered by Preservation Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. Matching funds were provided by the Borough of West Chester and the West Chester Business Improvement District.
